The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has expanded Medicare coverage for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The final national coverage decision, issued March 13, expands coverage for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices to include beneficiaries who have been diagnosed with OSA using certain types of devices for home sleep studies. Medicare previously provided coverage only for beneficiaries diagnosed using a polysomnography test in an attended sleep laboratory setting.
