According to a recent survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 35% of heart attack survivors reported receiving outpatient cardiac rehabilitation services. According to the authors of the study, possible reasons for low rates of use include cost and lack of referral or access to services, the authors said. Men and patients over 50 were more likely to participate in such services than women and younger patients.
