According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 42.5 million U.S. residents (14.3%) were uninsured when interviewed from January to June 2007 for the National Health Interview Survey. An estimated 53.2 million residents (18.0%) had been uninsured for at least part of the year prior to the interview, and 30.8 million (10.4%) had been uninsured for more than a year at the time of the interview.
