AHRQ and ACC to Study ICD Risks and Benefits

A $3.5 million research project that will study the long-term benefits and risks of implantable cardioverter defibrillators  (ICDs) in patients at risk of death from ventricular fibrillation will be supported by the Department of Health & Human Services’ (HHS) Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC). The project is being conducted in cooperation with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and will follow 3500 patients with ICDs from the cardiovascular Research Network.
